Behavior Mental Health therapist for Palliative Care-Oncology Clinic
The Supportive Care Clinic (as above) is expanding and actively seeking a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) or licensed professional counselor (LPC) for the role of Behavioral Mental Health (BMH) therapist to act as the interdisciplinary psychosocial clinician in Supportive Care Clinic, an outpatient palliative oncology clinic for children with cancer and their families who sustain significant challenges to their quality of life. The BMH therapist will provide evidence based individual and group therapy focused on a broad range of conditions, including anxiety, mood disorders, physical and somatic conditions. In addition, the therapist will conduct interdisciplinary visits with other members of the Supportive Care team (MD, NP, psychologist). All patients are referred internally from Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center providers, and all have a life-threatening or life-limiting illness. Appointments will be a mixture of in-person and telehealth. The focus is on physical, emotional, social, and existential suffering, family coping, sibling challenges, anticipatory grief, end-of-life, hospice coordination, and bereavement. The therapist would work closely with the Supportive Care psychologist, other Aflac psychologists and social workers, the outpatient and inpatient interdisciplinary palliative care team, psychiatry, chaplains and family support team members to develop and implement a comprehensive treatment and care coordination plan for each patient.This role will also have time for bereavement planning including the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center's Annual Celebration of Life and group programming in collaboration with the outpatient Supportive Care psychologist. Successful candidates should demonstrate competency in therapy, social work, and have excellent interpersonal skills, allowing for productive interactions with other providers, nurses, creative arts therapists, child life specialists, chaplains, and parent caregivers. The ability to function within an interdisciplinary team is paramount, as this therapist will work with Supportive Care and Oncology physicians, nurse practitioners, psychologits, and social workers. Candidates with a strong background in palliative care, hospice, interdisciplinary practice, oncology, or pain-related coping preferred. Specific clinical training and skills related to the assessment and intervention of psychosocial needs associated with pediatric, adolescent and young adult's with serious illness, are necessary. Experience managing patients with total pain (physical, psychologic, spiritual, and social), psychologic distress, and/or experience with management of grief, bereavement, and end-of-life care are ideal qualifications.
